Director Jon Watts confirms no sequel to Apple TV+ film ‘Wolves’

A planned sequel to the Apple TV+ original film Wolves has reportedly been cancelled, marking another unexpected turn for both the film series and the way Apple appears to be changing its film ambitions.

“I don’t know what I’ll direct next, and I don’t think there will be a sequel to Wolves,” writer-director Jon Watts told a trade publication. Deadline.

While the planned Wolves 2 movie was never officially announced, it was seen as a way to counter Apple’s bad publicity surrounding its treatment of the original film. Stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt took significant pay cuts to ensure the action-comedy would get the wide theatrical release Apple had originally planned.

However, shortly before release, Apple scaled back its plans and instead gave it a one-week theatrical run. At the time, Wolves became the most-watched Apple TV+ original film.

This streaming success could force Apple to reconsider its theatrical plans, especially for a sequel. But Apple is said to have sharply trimmed its roster after a series of costly flops such as Killers of the Flower Moon.

Apple is believed to be waiting to see its next major film, Formula 1, starring Wolfs co-star Brad Pitt, hit cinemas in the summer of 2025. – budget tariffs and instead produce more films, each of which will be cheaper.

The company may also choose to purchase finished films rather than producing them in-house or being the sole investor in independent productions. Apple is already acquiring films, one of which is the acclaimed 2022 film CODA, which earned the streamer its first-ever Oscar for Best Picture.
