The Hobart Hurricanes ended Perth’s WBBL campaign by all but securing a spot in the finals after defeating the Scorchers by three wickets.

The Hurricanes bowled out the Scorchers for 138 at the WACA Ground in Perth on Saturday night – after the home side had lost their final seven wickets for 20 runs off 27 balls amid a disastrous collapse of 8-33 – before capturing the target with 14 innings. to save money.

The chase was far from easy for Hobart, who slumped from 0-51 to 5-71 to 7-95 before lower order pair Catherine Bryce (number 34) and Lauren Smith (number 16) put on an unbeaten 44 for the eighth wicket. .

The pair helped Hobart (10 points) leapfrog Perth (nine) into fourth place in the standings and a box seat for the final.

Sixth-placed Sydney Sixers (eight points) remain an outside chance of pushing the Canes out of the top four.

They will need to beat the Brisbane Heat at Allan Border Field on Monday, the final match of the tournament, by a large enough margin for their net run rate (-0.367) to exceed Hobart’s (+0.189).

The Hurricanes reached a half-century after five overs before Elise Vilani (11) was caught by Amy Edgar.

Sophie Devine (4-26) took a stunning catch in the outfield to remove the dangerous Liesel Lee (44 off 22 balls) and then caught Heather Graham (1) and Susie Bates (0) in the second over.

Devine then castled Tabitha Saville (11) and Molly Strano (0) in his third over, and the Kanes had seven downs in the 13th over before Bryce and Lauren Smith saved the day.

Earlier, Devine (28) and veteran international Beth Mooney (50) were in complete control of the bat, taking the Scorchers’ total to 2-105 in the 14th over before the wheels completely fell off.

Amy Smith took a sharp catch to get Devine off before taking the key wicket of Mooney, who passed the catch to Bates.

Spinners Amy Smith (3-17) and Lauren Smith (2-24) plus four eliminations led to Perth’s dramatic decline.
