Sydney: Police have charged a third man in wild chase in Doonside.

Police have charged a third man for his alleged role in a wild chase in Sydney’s west during which an officer was stabbed.

Police were called to Hill End Road in Doonside to reports of five men fighting at around 12.30am on Friday.

It is alleged that four men tried to drive away in a hatchback and police began a pursuit.

The chase ended when the car crashed into a power pole on Power Street, with four men allegedly attempting to flee the scene.

Police allege the 20-year-old stabbed the male constable in the left side under the ribs and once in the back.

The constable was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition and later released.

On Friday police described the incident as “disgusting”.

Three men, aged 18, 20 and 21, were arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood said the men were in some way linked to gangland crime and said they were known to police.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with wounding a police officer while on duty, wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, using a firearm to suppress a lawful arrest, possessing a knife in a public place and assaulting a police officer while on duty.

He was refused bail and appeared at Blacktown Local Court on Friday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of a knife in a public place, stalking/intimidation, being armed with intent to commit a felony and affray.

He was refused bail and also appeared at Blacktown Local Court on Friday.

A 21-year-old man was also arrested on Friday and taken to Westmead Hospital.

He was later released and taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with affray, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, possessing a knife in a public place and intimidation.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

Police are still trying to identify two more men and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
