Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury was unable to attend the scheduled opening of a showroom in Chattogram due to what she called “security issues”.

Yesterday (November 2) she wrote on Facebook: “I am already back in Dhaka and at home, so there is nothing to worry about. Today I was supposed to attend the opening of the showroom in Chattgram, but on my way from the airport to the showroom, I heard about some security issues, so the organizers and I decided not to go to the showroom due to security reasons.

“We turned the car around and returned to the airport, deciding to return to Dhaka. Thanks again to everyone for visiting me,” she added.

Some local media reported that Mehzabane faced opposition from local businessmen and men under the banner of “Tawhidi Janata”.

The opening of the Khuki Lifestyle showroom was scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Reazuddin Bazar area on Station Road.

According to local media reports, before the opening of the exhibition hall on Friday (November 1), a religious meeting was held with the participation of a local Muslim cleric.

Mehazabien was due to officially open the showroom the next day, but the arrangement was reportedly not well received by some locals who considered it disrespectful to the cleric.

As a result, according to local media reports, people gathered under the slogans of “local traders and Tawhidi Janata of Reazuddin Bazar” to protest against Mehazabien’s role in the inauguration.

However, Sarwar Kamal, president of the Tamakumundi Business Association, told Prothom Alo that the showroom was inaugurated by a cleric from Baitush Sharaf on Friday.

Mehazabien Chowdhury was scheduled to reopen it on Saturday.

He said that due to family and personal commitments he was unable to attend both days and was not fully aware of the details of what happened.

He, however, clarified that no traders from Tamakumundi were involved in preventing the inauguration of Mehazabien.

Imdad Hossain, manager of the showroom, told Prothom Alo that their event started at 3 pm.

Mehazabien Chowdhury arrived in Chattogram to attend the event but may not have been able to attend due to personal reasons.

He noted that there were no problems inside the showroom during the event, and they were not aware if anyone was present outside.
