Adult ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – is in the spotlight on social media as more adults and celebrities admit to having it.

Interest is high, with over 190,000 posts on Instagram using the hashtag #adultadhd. The YouTube video “ADHD and how anyone can improve their concentration” by popular American neuroscientist Andrew Huberman has received more than 6.4 million views in the three years since its publication.

Medical guidelines only officially recognized this disorder in adults in the early 2000s.

You might think that it develops in adults later in life. But that’s not true, says Dr Sally Cubbin, a neuropsychiatrist and co-founder of UKAAN, the UK Adult ADHD Network. He runs one of the most renowned ADHD clinics in the UK, specializing in adults with the disorder.

Most children with ADHD become adults with ADHD, she said.
