Cub.com Now Accepts SNAP for Online Grocery Orders

Cub now accepts SNAP payments for online orders on Cub.com, joining a growing list of Minnesota retailers and delivery apps that can accept food assistance cards.

The federal program, formerly known as food stamps, is used by nearly half a million Minnesotans to buy food.

“We are excited to make access to nutritious food even more accessible to more of our customers, and this is a big step in this offering,” said Andre Persaud, president of retail at UNFI, Cub’s parent company.

Cub’s 54 company-owned stores have begun accepting SNAP for online orders, and franchise stores are expected to join soon, the company said.

Other major grocery store chains, including Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam’s Club, Hy-Vee, Lunds & Byerlys, Coborn’s and Jerry’s, have already received USDA approval to accept EBT cards that provide SNAP benefits for online orders.

The addition of Cub furthers the department’s “goal to make healthy food more accessible and help members better manage their grocery budgets,” USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Cindy Long said in a news release.

During the pandemic, online ordering has become the new norm for grocery shopping. But in many cases, SNAP was not accepted for online orders until the last few years, outside of the individual states and retailers piloting the program.
