🏈 Hayes wins at Andover, season continues

Hayes High traveled to Andover on Friday night to begin postseason play.

The Indians used a pair of Carter Graham one-yard touchdown runs and a pair of carries to lead 12-0 at halftime.

Hayes’ first touchdown was an 11-play, 68-yard drive that converted a third down and a fourth down. The extra point was missed with 3:19 left in the first quarter to make the score 6-0.

Wyatt Kirkpatrick recovered Andover’s punt and brought the Indians into Troy territory, but Hayes lost the ball on downs.

Dalton Meyers then intercepted a Trojan pass by Johnny Rigler in the second quarter. Hayes turned it into a 10-play, 61-yard drive that scored six points on Graham’s one-yard leap. The extra point was blocked, giving Hayes a 12-0 lead with 5:28 before halftime.

Hayes forced a punt and drove into the Andover 20, but was unable to convert the point by turning the ball over on downs.

Highlights

The Indians continued to dominate the second half. Andover scored on its first possession. The Indian offense scored eleven plays later on fourth down and goal from eight. Graham found Holden Lind on a pass, lifted high into the air under heavy defensive pressure. Hayes failed to convert the two-point attempt and led 18-0.

Andover was never able to find success on offense. After another punt, Lind ran 84 yards on the first play of the Indians’ offensive series for a touchdown. The extra point hit the upright and missed, leaving the score 24-0.

Jackson Chartier recovered from the setback in center field and put Hayes back in the mix. Once again in fourth, Graham found Lind. This time on fourth-and-10, a 26-yard pass. Carson Moore kicked the extra point for a 31-0 score.

Carter Graham threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Holden Lind rushed for 154 yards and one score. He had 50 receiving yards and two more touchdowns. The Indian attack was 400 yards. Andover gained just 146 yards. They had 95 yards after their average coming into the game was 320.

Hayes improves to 5-4 and plays at Great Bend next Friday. Panthers 9-0. Andover finishes the season 4-5.
