Salt Lake City Police Department Announces Preventive Measures Ahead of Elections

SALT LAKE CITY — With Friday being the last day of early voting, Fox 13 stopped by the Salt Lake County Government Center where the voting process was proceeding smoothly.

However, several law enforcement agencies, including the Salt Lake City Police Department, are monitoring the event to prevent any disruptions between now and Election Day on Tuesday.

“We are working with our local, state and federal partners to provide resources as needed.

in order to safely address any issues that may arise during election week,” said Salt Lake City Police Detective Dalton Beebe.

Detective Beebe said the department wants to keep things under wraps, aiming not to reveal the tactics if something unusual happens during the election.

“We don’t have any specific threats or anything right now, but we’ve been training,” Beebe said. “We have increased our operational readiness and are prepared to respond to anything that may arise.”

In conversations with local voters, they appreciate the police initiative, but at the same time do not believe that there will be any voting irregularities or violence in connection with the elections.

“Here in Utah I don’t think so, I think we’ll be fine,” Millcreek resident Jackson Randall said.

“Honestly, I think it’s a waste of our money. You know what I’m saying, I don’t think that’s going to happen in Utah.”

Salt Lake City resident Jason Lemon felt authorities might be overreacting.

“In terms of vigilance, I don’t think it’s necessary here, it’s not necessary here, it’s a pretty relaxed state,” he said. “People are pretty peaceful.”

Still, given the contentious political climate, the Salt Lake City Police Department isn’t taking any chances.

“You’ll see officers in the community, I mean, say hi to us, but we’re ready to respond to anything,” Beebe said.
