Mark Cuban apologizes for comments offensive to women who work for Trump

Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban tried to apologize Friday to women who work for former President Donald Trump after facing backlash for saying Trump didn’t surround himself with “strong, smart women.”

The billionaire made the comments Thursday while answering a question on The View about why former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was not invited to join Trump on the campaign trail.

“Donald Trump, you will never see him among strong, smart women. Never. It’s that simple. They scare him. He doesn’t like it when they challenge him,” Cuban said. “Nikki Haley will call him out on his nonsense about reproductive rights and the way he sees, treats and talks about women. I mean, he just can’t have her around. It won’t work.”

Cuban attempted to clarify his comments in a post on X on Friday, asserting that the comment was not directed at “Trump voters, supporters or employees. Current or former.”

“When I said that during the interview, I didn’t quite get it the way I thought I would. So I apologize to anyone who felt offended or upset by my response,” Cuban said. “I tuned in to a 6-second sound bite. No excuses. I can’t record every interview. My skin is quite thick.”

He further criticized the answers received during the interview, saying that many of the answers, both for and against him, tended to contain some kind of insult.

“I don’t blame anyone. We are who we are,” he continued. “I hope that in a week something will change at least a little. In the spirit of joy… I should add that all the AI memes of me with long hair drive me crazy. So there’s a positive there.”

The comment was sharply criticized by the Trump campaign on Thursday.

“This is extremely offensive to the thousands of women who work for President Trump and the tens of millions of women who vote for him,” said Trump campaign national press secretary Caroline Leavitt. “These women are mothers, entrepreneurs and industry leaders, and they are truly strong and smart, despite what Mark Cuban and Kamala Harris say.”
