Paristown Pointe Development Opponents Say They’re Taking the City to Court

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – It’s commonly referred to as the old City Center. Before that it was the old Baptist hospital. Current development plans call for demolishing the buildings and replacing them with residential apartments, a hotel, office space, shops and a garage.

But after six years of debate, Louisville Historical League President Steve Weiser is among preservationists who still want to preserve the buildings and develop green space. On November 1, Weiser announced plans to sue the city, accusing the Louisville Metro government of failing to follow legal guidelines in approving the development.

“These legal restrictions stipulate that any major changes must go through an approval process,” Weiser said at a news conference announcing the facility. “We allege that Louisville Metro did not follow these legal guidelines.”

However, some Paristown Point residents support the development.

“We don’t need a 10-acre park. We don’t need this,” said resident Cindy Pablo, who unexpectedly joined the news conference to criticize the plans for the lawsuit.

“They might want a park so they can come from other areas and come here and have a good time and do whatever they want,” Pablo said. “But the people who live here in Paristown Pointe don’t want a park.”

Weiser said the lawsuit will be filed within the next two weeks. Demolition of the abandoned buildings is expected to begin in December.
