Trump on Liz Cheney in Arizona: ‘She’s a radical militant hawk’

Former President Donald Trump created a new and threatening image by discussing former US Representative Liz Cheney during a conversation with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Speaking about the former Wyoming congresswoman, who is a frequent critic, he said: “She’s a radical militant hawk. Let’s put it where the rifle is, and it’s being shot with nine barrels. FINE? Let’s see how she feels about this. You know, with guns pointed at her face.

Trump made his remarks Thursday at a rally at a packed Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale.

Arizona Attorney General Chris Mays said Friday she was investigating the comments as potentially subject to criminal prosecution.

Trump campaign national press secretary Caroline Leavitt responded to Mays’ move as a “desperate attempt to help Kamala Harris’ failed campaign.”

The conversation touched on what Trump described as Cheney’s willingness to send U.S. troops into battle, as well as the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Cheney, a Republican, was vice chairman of the committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race.

Cheney responded to X: “This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten death to those who oppose them. We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant.”

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who was shot by a would-be assassin in 2011, also spoke out about X. “I was shot and nearly killed while serving the people of Arizona. So I ask my fellow patriots to reject Trump’s calls for violence and retribution.” “

Trump also called Cheney “dumb.”

Using language familiar to those who attended or watched his rallies, he also disparaged Harris’ intelligence; the character of Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate; and John Bolton, his former national security adviser.
