Lifestyle center under construction in Upper Macungie receives million in government funding | Western Lehigh County

W. MAKANGIE TWP., Pa. – A lifestyle center being built in Lehigh County will get a big financial boost.

State Representative Mike Schlossberg and State Senator Jarrett Coleman said the Shapiro administration is releasing $5 million from the program to help renovate the Community Lifestyle Center in Upper Macungie Township, according to a press release from Schlossberg’s office.

“When legislators and Governor Shapiro work together, our region wins,” Schlossberg said. “In Upper Macungie Township, this means the community lifestyle center concept is one step closer to funding and construction, helping leaders of a growing and thriving community better meet the needs of their residents and Lehigh County.”

Community leaders began construction of the center in September. The 188,000-square-foot complex will include an indoor soccer field, running tracks, indoor basketball and volleyball courts, exercise rooms, recreational and educational spaces and a cafeteria, according to a press release.

Schlossberg’s office says the facility will also be available to serve public needs in the event of an emergency, as well as sporting events, holidays, concerts and public health clinics. Upper Macungie Township leaders have spent years planning the Grange Park facility, which is likely to open in about 20 months, Schlossberg’s office said.

“As someone who has lived in Upper Macungie for most of my life, I recognize that this municipality is a great place to live, work, raise and raise a family,” Coleman said. “The lifestyle center will be a long-term resource for the community, and I look forward to seeing this facility open to the public.”

“Upper Macunga’s leaders and community partners are making incredible investments in our region,” Schlossberg said. “I’m thrilled to support these efforts and that the Shapiro administration sees value for the residents of Lehigh County.”

Funding for the Upper Macungie Township Community Lifestyle Center was received through the Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program, a state grant program for the design, acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historic improvement projects.
