Last day of early in-person voting

Last day of early in-person voting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – With only four days until Election Day, Friday is the last day you can vote early.

While the race for the White House is on the minds of millions across the country, two candidates for Congress have recently turned their attention to Springfield.

These candidates are incumbent Democratic Congressman Richard Neal and his opponent Nadia Milleron.

Neal has represented the district for decades, but independent Milleron says it’s time for change in Washington.

Neal has served his district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1988.

Western Mass News caught up with him Thursday at Union Station, where he was celebrating the funding of the anticipated East-West Railroad project. He touched on some of his key accomplishments as chairman of the Budget and Means Committee.

One of them is the adoption of the Inflation Reduction Law.

We asked the longtime congressman what his agenda would look like if voters give him another term in our nation’s capital.

“By extending subsidies for the ACA, we are passing a tax bill that expires at the end of 2025… Again, the results next Tuesday should determine how much of these pieces of legislation continue to be debated after this tax package expires. I think we clearly have some leverage,” he says.

Meanwhile, Nadia Milleron is running for president for the first time, but she has experience passing laws.

In 2019, her daughter died in a Boeing 737 plane crash.

As a result, she traveled to Washington, D.C., to help pass the Aircraft Certification, Safety and Accountability Act of 2020, which would ensure that planes meet the proper criteria before they take to the skies.

If Milleron is chosen to represent the more than 767,000 people who live in the district, she told Western Mass News she would adjust how the office is run and health care for Bay State residents.

“The problem is with medical staff because in our area we have to pay for health insurance, but we actually have to wait months before we can get an appointment, so we’re not actually covered,” she says.

Again, Friday is the last day you can vote early, and Election Day is this coming Tuesday.
