About 25,000 ballots were cast in the three Outer Banks counties, matching the pace set four years ago ahead of early voting, which ends Saturday at 3 p.m.

So far, more than 3.6 million ballots have been cast statewide in person or by mail, representing more than 46 percent of the state’s registered voters.

In-person early voting in North Carolina for this general election is expected to exceed 2020’s record turnout.

There were 15,869 ballots cast in Dare County, according to statistics released by the State Board of Elections Thursday morning.
