Victim of attempted car theft in Flowood speaks out

FLOWOOD, Miss. (WLBT) – Nicole Odom vividly recalls an attempted carjacking that happened Wednesday.

Flowood Police responded to the intersection of Lakeland Drive and Treetops Boulevard in reference to a disturbance.

Police say the suspect, later identified as Elias Chox-Chay, ran from them to Odom’s car at Applebee’s and then tried to steal it.

Odom stated, “And I said, ‘Oh hell no, not today.’ I took my car, turned it on and said, “No, no,” and I started turning the steering wheel. I said, “No, I won’t be a part of this.” I’m starting to film. And he jumped on my car, climbed up on my passenger door, opened it, and then I just shot. I didn’t know what else to do. I fired. And then I went left, and when I went left, they threw him *** on the ground.”

Luckily, police say he was unable to get into her car. He was thrown from the car and suffered serious injuries after hitting the pavement.

“And then I said, ‘Oh my God.’ So when he hit his head and I saw that he wasn’t moving, I didn’t know what else to do. I just walked around it, parked in front of it and waited for the cops to get here.”

Odom offered some advice on what can be done to prevent this from happening.

“I was just lucky. I mean, this dude didn’t have a gun. Thank God, if he really had a weapon, then, you know, it would probably be a different story. The only thing I can say is just be aware of your surroundings.”

WLBT has reached out to Flowood police for an update on the investigation.

Once the suspect recovers from his injuries, he will be transferred to police custody, they said.
