Claim: About 200,000 people attended Trump rally at Madison Square Garden

The Oct. 27 Facebook post (direct link, archived link) includes a screenshot of the Right Side Broadcasting Network’s live broadcast of former President Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden that day.

“Almost 200,000 people in MSG!!!” reads the caption to the post.

Other versions of the statement, including one from a New Zealand news outlet, circulated widely on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

Our rating: False

Madison Square Garden’s capacity was less than 20,000, several news outlets reported. According to the official statement of the company that owns this establishment, its maximum capacity is 21,000 people.

The Trumps say thousands more wanted to attend the rally.

The number of seats at the site varies depending on the event, but no one meeting can accommodate 200,000 people.

According to Madison Square Garden Entertainment’s annual SEC report filed in August, Madison Square Garden’s maximum capacity is “approximately 21,000 seats.”

The Trump rally site could accommodate 19,500 people, media outlets including USA TODAY and The Hill reported. According to Reuters, the Trump campaign said all tickets had been claimed.

Speakers at the event said demand for tickets far exceeded the venue’s capacity, referring to the thousands of supporters who reportedly lined the streets outside.

“And we have all the people who could fill it 10 times over,” Trump said, calling Madison Square Garden an “incredible arena.”

Eric Trump also said during his speech that “nearly 200,000 people tried to get into this event tonight.”

USA TODAY has debunked a number of claims related to Trump rallies, including false claims that the image shows a crowd in New York City before a rally at Madison Square Garden, that Trump said 35,000 people attended his May rally in the Bronx , and that Trump shared a doctored photo of the rally that showed the same participants in multiple locations.

USA TODAY reached out to the Trump campaign and the user who shared the post for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Check Your Fact also refuted this claim.
