What changes will Jared Goff make to the Detroit Lions to avoid layoffs?

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff was sacked four times against the Tennessee Titans, an uncharacteristic performance for a line as good as it has been all season.

On one of the sacks, he apparently suffered an ankle injury. Although he did not practice Wednesday, he expects to return to practice Thursday and believes he will be fine for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

One area he plans to change is his pocket management as he hopes to avoid getting hit as often as he did against the Titans.

“Just my depth in the pocket. I need to be better and make sure I move forward in the pocket and have good depth. And then get rid of the ball in time,” Goff said. “These guys know what they have to do, but they’ve done a pretty good job all year and I definitely contribute to that by keeping myself upright and keeping the ball in my hands.”

The 30-year-old has been playing at an extremely high level throughout the team’s five-game winning streak. During that span, the Lions scored 24 offensive touchdowns while Goff threw for just 19.

These impressive statistics were a huge factor in the team’s success as the team’s offense developed at an elite pace.

“You know, I’ve never dropped back or thrown a pass, but maybe we’ll see how many times we played tricks,” tight end Sam LaPorta said. “But to me this is just an absurd statistic. He is now playing at a very high level, and all the power is in his hands. He’s one of the best in the league who can do it. I don’t know”. if he gets enough praise, and he should.”

Back to Lambeau Field

The Lions’ next test will be a big one as they battle the Green Bay Packers for first place in the NFC North division. In their first outdoor game of the year, it will be a new challenge as the team prepares for new conditions.

“It’s a fun environment, it’s loud,” Goff said. “It will be loud for us, we, the defending champions, will be back there. It will be good. It’s fun. It’s grass, it’s outside, no matter what the weather is. It will be good.”

Detroit is already poised for success as Dan Campbell emphasized the importance of the right footwear. Schematically, the Lions will have to take care of the ball against a Green Bay defense that leads the league in scoring.

“They’re good at it. They handle the ball well and are well coached,” Goff said. “They know where the ball is, they chase it and try to make plays. Our task is to prevent them from doing this. We’ve done well with this so far, but now it will be a big test for us. We have to do our job.”
