Patrick and Brittany Mahomes describe son Bronze’s allergic reaction

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are opening up about their 1-year-old son Bronze’s severe allergic reaction to nuts that sent him to the emergency room last summer.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and his wife detailed the “scariest moments” of their lives in an Instagram video for Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) posted Tuesday.

“I was introduced to Bronze early on,” Brittany said, explaining that she decided to do allergy testing with Bronze when he was about 9 months old after learning their 3-year-old daughter, Sterling, had allergies.

“I was trying different things with Bronze, and this was our first day with nuts, and it’s just a little packet of powder that you add to his bottle,” she recalled.

“And so he took his bottle and then after about 30 minutes he became very irritable, very fussy. I took his diaper off and there were just hives and welts everywhere.”

The 29-year-old Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model explained that the hives eventually spread to Bronze’s upper body and face.

“It caused me to panic inside,” she said of the August 2023 incident.

“That’s when we rushed to the emergency room. Just seeing his whole body covered in welts and hives and feeling so uncomfortable was probably one of the scariest moments of my life.”

Patrick, also 29, echoed his wife’s sentiments, adding: “I remember how scared I was and how serious it was and luckily for us the doctors were able to help and that’s when it became a big deal for me. I’m something that really needs to be addressed.”

Earlier this year, the Mahomes partnered with AUVI-Q, an epinephrine injection, to spread food allergy awareness.

The couple, who were high school sweethearts, tied the knot in March 2022.

They welcomed a son in November 2022 and a daughter in February 2021.
