While scrolling through my predictably entertaining algorithm, I came across Lord of the Rings a video that forever changed the person I will walk forward with. now I have NSF answers to questions I never asked, and to be honest, I miss those times.

What would happen if someone stuck a power ring in their butt?

When I started watching this viral TikTok, an unnamed man wondered what would happen if Frodo stuck the Ring of Power in his ass. Will he disappear? This is a question that I personally had never thought about until now, but considering how many people are looking for the ring, I understand that it makes sense to hide it where few people would expect. If the fate of Middle-earth depends on it, desperate times may call for desperate measures. (To be fair, you’d think Gollum might have tried this, but I wouldn’t count on that scene happening in the planned spin-off film for the character.)

Apparently the answer is no, Frodo or anyone else who sticks the ring up their ass will not become invisible. Who knew?

The TikToker explained that, in simple terms, the human body has one tube that connects us from the mouth to the sphincter, making us look like a living donut. Although the ring will be located inside the body, it has been proven that it does not work when people hold it in their hand with a closed fist. So, since nothing can penetrate the ring’s middle hole, we can safely assume that sticking the ring up your butt won’t make you invisible. Once Pandora’s Box is opened, there’s no turning back, so I’m glad FantasyAnnexe offered another answer that he rightly expected fans might think about. Considering that putting a ring on a finger can make a person invisible, it makes sense that if Frodo or anyone else managed to get a ring on their genitals, they too would disappear.

Imagine being a Nazgul and coming and seeing this. Next time we talk to Benjamin Walker, we should ask about the Elvish word meaning “incredibly uncomfortable moments.” While we’re all pondering this, here’s the original video:

Just a few months ago we discussed identity Stranger on Rings of Powerand just think: here we are.

I think Rings of Power Season three can’t come soon enough, in person or at all in the 2025 TV schedule, to effectively distract us from dealing with these questions we were never asked to think about and are now permanently lodged in our brains. Regardless, as a person cursed with this particular knowledge, I had to pass it on, and I hope whoever reads this will do the same. After all, even the smallest person can change the course of the future of LOTR knowledge.
