Tyler Herro’s big play wasn’t enough in Miami Heat’s loss to New York Knicks

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro played like an All-Star on Wednesday night against the New York Knicks.

Herro finished with 34 points, five rebounds, one steal and seven assists on 60 percent shooting. In a 116-107 loss to the Knicks, he shot a team-high 8 of 13 from 3-point range.

Herro looked comfortable as a scorer and playmaker. He found his open spots and went to paint.

“The coaching staff and my teammates made it easy for me,” Herro said. “Just being able to win the ball back, you know, obviously I still have the ball in my hands where I can create and finish chances. The transition was easy and smooth only because my teammates were able to help. We have so many guys who can get into the paint, so even though I’m not in the trap, I can still play aggressive basketball.”

It’s early in the season, but the offense still has some struggles with Herro trying to get the ball to Bam Adebayo more consistently in certain areas to improve his offense.

“I think it can be difficult when you’re trying to get to a certain game that we’re trying to play,” Herro said. “At the same time, I think winning basketball is winning basketball, and if Jimmy and Bam get the ball, then that’s what it is. I think a lot of people fall into the trap of offensive rating numbers. As long as we win, that’s all that matters.”
