Alexander Ernest Hamilton – Obituary –

It is with broken hearts that we announce that our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Alexander “Hammy” Ernest Hamilton, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at TBRHSC on Friday, October 18, 2024.

Alexander was born in Fort William on January 21, 1943, to Alexander “Sandy” and Ada May (nee Stewardson) Hamilton. He was educated locally and worked at the Great Lakes Paper Mill for many years, retiring from the finishing department at the age of 55 years. He met Donna Jennings and they married on November 20, 1965, building a wonderful and loving life together. Hammy and Donna’s lives revolved around their love and devotion to their children and family. Together they enjoyed; camping, family barbecue on the terrace, cards, Hagi TV Bingo and Friday night date nights at Westfort Prosvita (Life Member) or Branch 6 Legion. For those who knew Hammy, he was an avid fisherman/hunter and had a great love for the outdoors and his friends who would join him on adventures. His personality shone brightly; He had a gentle and calm disposition, but always knew how to make the crowd laugh with his quick and witty jokes. His personality, laughter and kindness will be greatly missed by his family and friends. However, the memories of Hammy will live forever in their hearts, as well as in the quiet, peaceful nature where he loved to be.

Alex will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Donna Hamilton (nee Jennings); daughters Shelley Prystansky and Stacy Hamilton; brother-in-law George Jennings (Moe); grandchildren Riley Melnichuk (Marlo), Keltie Ford (Joe), Chelsea Hamilton (Alex), Courtney MacLeod and Haley Hamilton (Justin), and great-grandchildren Mercedes, Nash, Isla, Hunter and Lily, whom he loved so dearly and unconditionally. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Sheri Hamilton; parents, Sandy and Ada Hamilton, mother-in-law and father-in-law Dolly and Ken Jennings, sister Sandra Qualey and brother-in-law Donald Jennings.

A service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street in James.
