Suspect arrested after another killed and another injured at Hamilton community center | UK News

A suspect has been arrested in a murder investigation after a man was killed and another injured at a community center in South Lanarkshire.

Police Scotland Officers reportedly received a report of two men injured at the Burnbank Center in Hamilton around 3.50pm on Monday.

Emergency crews attended the scene and the 36-year-old man died at the scene, while the 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to hospital.

A 56-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Superintendent Richard Taylor said: “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

“We have increased police presence in the area as we recognize this can be a very worrying and worrying time for the local community.

“Anyone who has concerns is asked to speak to these officers.”

Street closures have been placed on Whitehill Road and Purdy Street as investigations continue and are likely to remain in place until midday on Tuesday, with limited access to shops.

Residents are asked to avoid the area.
