The SunSport columnist and former Light Blues forward was stunned by the poor performance of the Gers in their 1-0 defeat by his first club Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Now Boyd is no longer prepared to let Clement hide behind the off-field turmoil at Ibrox without a permanent chairman, without a chief executive, without a head of football operations and without an academy boss.

“I don’t know where Philippe Clément will go next.

“I’m not saying all the fans have converted, but it’s getting to that stage now.

“Something is not working at Rangers. It’s a million miles from where it should be.

“In the summer he was able to throw the can onto the street. He said he needed to bring in new players and get them up to speed.

“They’ve picked up the pace, they’re performing – and they’re just not at the level that Rangers need.

“It’s hard to justify the claim that there have been improvements in this department, there are improvements there and you feel things will get better in the long run.

Rangers star Leon Balogun reflects on disappointing defeat to Kilmarnock

“I just don’t see it. Killie’s performance is as bad as I’ve seen in a long time.

“Philippe Clément tried to predict the future from the point of view of: ‘By October we will be 200 percent better.’ I really don’t see it.

“For me, this is approaching a worrying stage.

“The next couple of weeks are going to be massive. You have a European game on Thursday night and also a home game against St Mirren.

“Rangers have absolutely no chance of getting closer to Celtic this season.”

“I can be left with egg on my face, I said Aberdeen have absolutely no chance of finishing second. I still believe they don’t.

“But if you look at it right now, at least this is a team that is together, this is a team that is fighting, this is a team that is fighting for their manager.

“Rangers have so many problems at the moment.
