Hobart’s Brady Leitner wins Rookie of the Week award

Hobart freshman forward Brady Leitner was named the Liberty League Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week this afternoon. Additionally, sophomore linebacker La Zay Outerbridge and young goalkeeper Thomas Hisovich were included in the conference’s weekly honor roll.

Hobart went 2-0-0 in the league last weekend, picking up six key points to finish third in the conference standings. The Statesmen beat Rensselaer 1-0 on Friday. The next day, Hobart beat Union 2-0, winning their third match in a row.

Leitner scored his first collegiate goal in Friday’s winner against the Engineers. He collected a bouncing ball in the box and fired a shot into the bottom right corner of the cage. The Mahopac, Md. native has played in all 13 games this season, starting nine.

Outerbridge scored an insurance goal in Hobart’s 2-0 win over Union on Saturday. He headed home from a Griffin Couts throw-in and scored his fourth goal of the season. Outerbridge, who has started 13 games, leads the Statesmen with four goals and nine points.

Hizovic played all 180 minutes in goal for the Statesmen, recording two shutouts. On Friday against RPI, he made two saves, including a diving stop in the 89th minute on a shot that was cleared into the bottom left corner of the cage. In the match against Union, Hizovic matched his season record by making five saves. He again had to make a big save to preserve the shutout. Hizovic saved the shot in the 84th minute. He’s played every minute this season and has 0.85 goals per game and a .780 save percentage with five shutouts.

Hobart (4-5-4, 3-2-2) will hit the road on Saturday, October 26 to begin a three-game road trip to conclude the regular season. The Statesmen will face Bard in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York at 2 p.m.
