Arson unit charges Ottawa woman after spate of fires

A 41-year-old Ottawa woman has been charged by the Ottawa Police Department’s arson unit in connection with a series of fires over the past month.

A map released by the police service on Monday shows the locations of 10 fires in the Byward Market, Lower Town and Sandy Hill areas.

Cassandra Mary Jodoin is charged with three counts of arson with disregard for human life, 10 counts of arson of property, 10 counts of possession of incendiary materials and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. .

Jodoin was arraigned Oct. 17 and was being held pending a bail hearing, police said in a news release.

Police said the arson unit plans to file additional charges.
