Professional surfer Bethany Hamilton has announced that her young nephew Andrew died in an accident last week.

“The Lord has taken my sweet nephew Andrew into his wonderful care. While my family and I will miss him dearly, we believe his joy is full of Jesus,” she wrote on Instagram.

She said Andrew almost drowned on October 11th.

“My precious nephew was taken to Kapiolani on Oahu this morning after drowning last night. His heart is still beating and he is struggling,” Hamilton wrote on October 12. “We are broken.”

The family was seeking medical help at the time. “The doctors were amazing and made all the changes we asked for in his medical care based on drowning research,” Andrew’s family wrote on his SupportNow page.

He died from his injuries on October 17. Andrey was 3 years old.

“This hurts terribly and we miss Andrew more than words can say,” his father Noah Hamilton wrote. “But we do not mourn like those who have no hope. We rejoice in the sure hope of the glory of God, in whose name Andrew was baptized, whose precious blood washed Andrew and made him a child and heir of heaven.”

He quoted 1 Corinthians 13:12: “For now we see dimly in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I will be fully known, just as I have been fully known.”

“Andrew sees Jesus as He is, face to face. He knows Jesus completely, just as Jesus knew him completely and loved him all his life,” he concluded.

“Here is the prayer of faith that my brother and our entire family prayed last week,” Bethany added. “This prayer so incredibly describes what it means to have faith. Faith is believing that God’s will for our lives is greater than our own. Thank you everyone for your love, prayers and support during this difficult time.”

Please continue to pray for the Hamilton family as they mourn Andrew’s death.
