TSECL and NEEPCO have come together to expedite the implementation of PM Surya Ghar Mufta Bijli Yojana

Agartala, November 21, 2024: In a key meeting held at the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) office today, officials of the corporation and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) discussed the roadmap for the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The ambitious initiative to provide free electricity to households through solar energy is a flagship project of the central government.

The meeting was actively attended by senior officials of both the organizations, including TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu, CFO Sarvajit Singh Dogra, CEO Swapan Debbarma and Chief Project Officer Sujata Das. NEEPCO was represented by Chief Human Resources Officer Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, Power Plant Manager Jitendra Lal Das, Chief General Manager (Headquarters) Jiten C Das and Deputy General Manager (HR) M.K. Metey.

Discussions revolved around accelerating the implementation of the project, with particular emphasis on public awareness campaigns. “The success of this project depends on how well we can communicate its benefits to the public,” TSECL managing director Biswajit Basu said. “We are committed to ensuring that this scheme reaches every eligible family in the state, fulfilling the vision of our Prime Minister,” he added.

Officials discussed several aspects, including government support for the project, potential banking collaboration for financial assistance and strategies to ensure electricity rates remain affordable for all. NEEPCO Director Personnel Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha stressed the importance of coordination among agencies. “This is a transformative initiative and its success depends on seamless collaboration between stakeholders. We are committed to realizing this vision effectively and transparently,” he said.

In addition to operational planning, both parties agreed to launch an extensive information campaign to inform the public about the benefits of the scheme. These campaigns will focus on promoting the adoption of solar energy, detailing government subsidies and responding to public inquiries about the scheme.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to timely implementation and a shared determination to make renewable energy a cornerstone of the state’s energy strategy. “Our combined efforts will not only ensure sustainable energy access for households, but will also contribute to India’s larger clean and green energy goals,” said Sujata Das, the project’s principal officer.

Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to empower rural and urban households by providing affordable and clean electricity while reducing dependence on traditional energy sources. Given the momentum generated by today’s discussions, the project is expected to make significant progress in the coming months.
