Cody Simpson Shares Surprising Career Announcement

He’s sung, he’s swum, and now Cody Simpson is honing his acting chops for his latest career venture: musical theater.

Announcing the news in November 2024, Cody will return to the stage in the latest Australian production of the Broadway classic. Guys and dolls at the Handa Opera House in Sydney.

“This soundtrack, this story and this film ignited my love for musical theater 10 years ago and there is no better place to get the opportunity to play this character than the waters of Sydney Harbour,” he wrote on Instagram.

Cody revealed that he will be joining the cast as the crooning Sky Masterson. Australian, “I became deeply immersed in almost every musical film (Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando) and then discovered that Guys and dolls and I immediately fell in love with him.”

“I think it’s so glamorous, glittery and larger than life. I’ve loved it ever since and thought that when I get older, I’d like to play this role.”

The production, due to return to the stage in March 2025, will be led by director Sean Rennie and renowned Australian conductor Guy Simpson as musical director.

Offering a sneak peek at the production, Shawn revealed that the show will give fans “lots of laughs, amazing dance numbers set in a huge piece of New York designed by Brian Thomson and costumes by Jennifer.” Irwin.

Joining Cody in the cast will be Annie Aitken as Sarah Brown, Bobby Fox as Nathan Detroit and Hamilton stars Jason Arrow as Nicely Nicely Johnson.

News of Cody’s latest career project comes just under six months after the Australian star announced he was retiring from competitive swimming and the Australian swimming team.

“You owe it to yourself to have the privilege of developing your talents with as much zeal and intensity as possible. The privilege of becoming who you are capable of becoming. Over the last 4 years I have left nothing unknown and now I can rest knowing that I put the pedal to the floor every day and covered every little detail to get as far as I could and it really did go pretty damn far. — he wrote on Instagram.

“I’m grateful for the tremendous amount of mileage I’ve accomplished in the short amount of time I’ve been a professional athlete and I wouldn’t trade a minute of it… Aim for the moon… land among the stars. My throw landed me forever in the constellation of stars known as the elusive Australian Swimming Team. Thank you for swimming.”
