CM Atishi launches solar portal in Delhi; Know how to apply

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday launched the ‘Delhi Solar Portal’ to make rooftop solar installations affordable and convenient for the people of Delhi. The initiative is in line with the Delhi Solar Policy, which aims to achieve a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of 750 MW by 2027. The portal can be accessed at solar.delhi.gov.in and has been created to enable citizens to make the transition to solar energy effortlessly.

Launching the ‘Solar Portal’ at the Delhi Secretariat, Chief Minister Atishi highlighted that through this, citizens can avail subsidies, install solar panels on their roof and apply for benefits based on power generation without leaving their home.

“This portal simplifies the process and empowers residents to take responsibility for their energy needs,” CM Atishi said, adding that this initiative will help achieve at least 25 percent of the 750 MW rooftop solar power generation target under the AAP Solar Policy , launched in March this year. “Under this policy, an ambitious target has been set to source 25% of Delhi’s total energy consumption from solar energy by 2027.”

The portal will allow residents of Delhi to become prosumers (energy consumers who produce additional solar energy) by installing rooftop solar panels using the portal. Even families who consume more than 400 units of energy can achieve zero energy bills using the solar portal.

The Solar Portal has a solar calculator feature that will allow users to determine potential energy production and savings from rooftop solar installations. The tool has been designed to encourage residents of the capital to choose the Solar Portal, highlighting its environmental and financial benefits.

CM Atishi reiterated the AAP government’s commitment to clean and pollution-free energy, saying, “The Delhi government has always been committed to clean and green energy. As you know, Delhi is the only state in the country that has shut down all thermal power plants. factories within their borders to prevent citizens from suffering due to pollution.”

Installing rooftop solar panels will help consumers whose monthly electricity consumption exceeds 400 units to avail subsidy benefits. “When you install solar panels on your roof, you also qualify for net metering. Net metering means that if you consume 400 units of electricity but generate 300 units from solar power, you will only need to pay for 100 units. Moreover, applications for subsidies provided by the Delhi government can also be submitted on this portal,” Atishi said.

She further said that the portal has a solar calculator that allows users to enter details such as location, roof size and area to get an estimate of how much solar power they can generate by installing panels in their homes.

Delhi’s solar policy also has financial benefits for users. Under this scheme, consumers who produce more electricity than they consume can earn money from the Delhi government. This will not only help consumers get rid of their electricity bills but also earn money every month from the excess energy they generate by installing solar panels on their roof. “Residential consumers will get Rs 2 per unit as an incentive based on power generation, while commercial and industrial units will get Rs 1 per unit,” she said.

What is Delhi Solar Portal?

Delhi Solar Portal is a comprehensive online platform to facilitate installation of rooftop solar installations for residents and businesses of the national capital. This is the AAP government’s initiative to achieve a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of 750 MW by 2027 under the Delhi Solar Energy Policy.

Key Features of Delhi Solar Portal

Centralized information center: Users can access detailed information about Delhi Solar Energy Policy on the portal, including benefits of rooftop solar systems, subsidy structures and related regulations.

Online applications: The portal will also help users apply for net metering and access Delhi government’s capital subsidies and generation-based incentives (GBI).

Solar calculator: This interactive tool will allow users to enter details such as roof area, monthly electricity consumption and desired solar installation capacity. These inputs will then help users obtain installation cost estimates, monthly GBI, applicable subsidies, potential energy bill savings, and payback period.

Supplier Directory: The portal has a list of suppliers to help consumers select reliable service providers for their solar installations.

Economic Incentives of Delhi Solar Portal

Generation-based incentives (GBI): Consumers will receive financial incentives based on the amount of solar energy they generate for five years after installation.

  • Residential consumers up to 3 kW: ₹3 per kWh.
  • Domestic customers 3 to 10kW: £2 per kWh.
  • Group Housing Societies (GHS) up to 500 kW: ₹2 per kWh.
  • Commercial and industrial consumers (up to 200 MW): ₹1 per kWh.

Capital subsidy: A one-time subsidy of ₹2000 per kW is also available for residential consumers. The limit is £10,000 per consumer. This subsidy is in addition to the central government subsidy.

What is the application process for Delhi Solar Portal?

  1. Registration: Consumers must register on the Delhi Solar Portal and apply for net metering, GBI and capital subsidies.
  2. Processing: The portal will streamline the entire application process and will coordinate with the concerned departments for further approvals.
  3. Installation: Once approved, consumers can install panels from certified suppliers.
  4. Incentive payments: Once installed, the GBI is adjusted according to the consumer’s electricity bill. If the GBI is exceeded, it will be credited directly to the consumer’s bank account within seven days of the billing cycle. The capital subsidy will be applied to the first electricity bill only after the rooftop solar system is operational.
