Israel calls on its citizens to leave some tourist areas of Sri Lanka – Latest News

JERUSALEM, Oct 23 (Reuters) – Israel’s National Security Council on Wednesday called on Israelis to immediately leave some tourist areas in Sri Lanka over the threat of a possible terrorist attack.

The agency said the alert covers the Arugam Bay area and beaches in the south and west of Sri Lanka and is due to “current information about a terrorist threat focused on tourist areas and beaches.”

The Security Council did not specify the exact nature of the threat and urged Israelis in the rest of Sri Lanka to be cautious and refrain from holding large gatherings in public places.

“Israeli security services… are in close contact with Sri Lankan security authorities and are monitoring developments,” the statement said.
