Formula 1 news: Toto Wolff hopes Lewis Hamilton’s days at Mercedes will end on a ‘high’

Formula 1 news: Toto Wolff hopes Lewis Hamilton’s days at Mercedes will end on a ‘high’

Lewis Hamilton’s shocking turnaround at last Sunday’s US Grand Prix ended his racing weekend early.

It also reduced the number of race weekends he spent with Mercedes before moving to Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season to five.

With Mercedes sitting fourth in the Constructors’ Championship standings and Hamilton currently sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, any dreams of a final championship with the Silver Arrows were dashed a few weeks ago. But that doesn’t mean Toto Wolff wants Hamilton’s final racing weekend with the team to be a disaster, as the Mercedes boss said on Sunday after the US Grand Prix.

“(Ending the season on a high note) is something we’re interested in, but the way his mindset and relationships within the team are as good as they’ve ever been,” Wolff told media, including SB Nationon Sunday evening at the Mercedes Hospitality Lounge.

“The first thing he said? He apologized for the incident,” Wolff continued, recalling Hamilton’s words after spinning on the second lap. “Like I said, I don’t think it was his fault. Something took him by surprise.

“So it’s great and we want to celebrate and finish on a high and I’m sure we will. Can we do this with excellent vehicle performance? That would be fantastic,” Wolf said.

“But if not, then we think we did our best.”
