Odisha increases casual leave for female employees to 12 days

The Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has announced to increase the additional leave provided to women employees of the state government to 12 days per year.

This adjustment aims to provide greater support to working women, especially during the menstrual period.

As per the revised policy, women employees can avail these 12 additional days of casual leave at the rate of one day per month. In addition, they are also entitled to the existing 10 days of ordinary leave (CL) and five days of special leave (SCL) which are already available to them. This brings the total number of vacation days specifically allocated for female employees to 27 days per year.

Previously, women were entitled to 10 days of additional leave. However, the decision to increase furloughs reflects the government’s recognition of the unique challenges women face in the workplace.

The revised leave policy also aims to further improve their health and wellbeing, while supporting a more inclusive and supportive work environment.

This directive from the Chief Minister highlights the administration’s ongoing efforts to address gender-sensitive needs in the workplace. It will also ensure that women employees are able to perform their professional and personal responsibilities more effectively.
