Hagerman’s Wyatt Mavenkamp Named Friday Night Blitz Week 9 Player of the Week

HAGERMAN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – The Hagerman Pirates upset defending state champion Butte County on Friday night, thanks in large part to their junior quarterback.

Wyatt Mavenkamp was named Week 9 Friday Blitz Player of the Week after helping Hagerman to a 30-14 win and handing Butte County its first loss of the season.

Mavenkamp threw for 178 yards and three scores, including a 72-yard touchdown pass to Kai Kendall.

He also rushed for 51 yards as Hagerman improved to 7-1 and established itself as one of 2A’s top teams.

Through eight games, Mavenkamp has thrown 34 touchdowns with just four interceptions and also scored three times.

On defense, he has three interceptions and a forced fumble, along with 31 tackles.

“I love the child. He is a tenacious defender as well as a middle linebacker. He’s a great leader and a hard worker who has put in a ton of time this summer,” head coach Bill Hicks told KMVT. “He’s smart and has developed into a real quarterback who tries to throw as he scrambles rather than just run.”

Hagerman’s only loss of the season came in conference play against Valley, a team the Pirates would like to see make the playoffs again.

The Pirates wrap up the regular season on Friday when they travel to Raft River.
