Opinion editors invited candidates in Minnesota’s key congressional elections to submit commentaries laying out their arguments for voters. We’ll start with the Second District, with this article by incumbent Rep. Angie Craig, a Democrat and another challenger Joe Tairab, a Republican.

My family and I have been fortunate to call Minnesota’s Second Congressional District home for many years, and I am honored to represent the hardworking people who live here.

I never expected to run for public office, much less Congress. My wife Cheryl and I raised four sons while I built a career in business. Life has been pretty busy. But during the fight for marriage equality here in Minnesota, I saw the progress that can be made when good people work together to make life better for their neighbors.

The lessons I learned from this fight have stuck with me. Since I first entered Congress in 2019, I have collaborated with many of you on efforts to invest in public safety, secure borders, return taxpayer dollars, and protect reproductive freedom.

I’m extremely proud of the progress we’ve made—and I’m running for re-election because I have a lot more work to do together as I listen to your stories.
