Beauty and the Beast is coming to Perth in July

Perth is set to experience the romance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast when the hit musical opens at the Crown Theater next July. This is the first time the show has been staged in Western Australia and follows its opening in Adelaide in May.

From the producers of The Lion King, Mary Poppins and Aladdin, the timeless story is brought to life in an updated production that boasts all the spectacle and grandeur that audiences know and love.

Rave reviews noted the cutting-edge technology, stunning costumes and big Broadway-style dance numbers combined with incredible music by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, brought to life by a live orchestra. The show has also received five stars from The Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun, Courier Mail, The Guardian and Time Out Sydney.

“We are thrilled to bring Beauty and the Beast – reimagined by members of the brilliant original creative team – to Perth and Adelaide for the first time,” said Disney Theatrical Group executive producer Anne Quart.

“This beloved show and Belle herself are as contemporary today as they were when they first premiered on stage in 1994. Following in the footsteps of our productions of Aladdin, Frozen, The Lion King and Mary Poppins, we look forward to bringing this treasured story to two of our favorite Australian cities,” said Quart.

The original production of Beauty and the Beast, based on the 1991 animated film, ran on Broadway for over 13 years. To this day, it remains one of the ten longest running shows in history, touring 37 countries around the world.

Featuring stunning new sets, costume design and cutting-edge technology, the classic story of Belle and her Beast will be brought to life by a stellar Australian cast starring Perth’s Shubshri Kandia as Belle and Brendan Xavier as the Beast. and Rohan Brown as Lumiere.

Members of the creative team from the original groundbreaking Broadway musical also returned to reimagine this classic tale. Olivier Award nominee Matt West directs and choreographs, leading a team that includes original composer Alan Menken, lyricist Tim Rice, writer Linda Woolverton, scenic designer Stan Meyer, costume designer Anne Hould-Ward and lighting designer Natasha Katz. Collectively, the team received five Tony Award nominations and a win for Hould-Ward’s costume design when Disney first brought “Beauty and the Beast” to Broadway 28 years ago.
