Following the Facebook post, Sarah’s owner was contacted by dog ”database” Dog Lost Somerset, who sent a number of volunteers with equipment and distributed photos and flyers throughout the community.

Sarah’s owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I was very concerned about her safety being so close to the A38.

“She took off her seatbelt on Thursday evening near our home address, ran away and was missing until 4.30pm on Sunday.

“She’s a nervous dog and I had a few sleepless nights.

“I’m so glad we were able to find her, and it’s thanks to Dog Lost. I don’t believe we would have found it without their support.”

Sarah lives with her companion dog Misty, who helped her owner in the search.
