A cyclist was grabbed by the hair, knocked to the ground and screamed at by an unknown man at a busy Adelaide intersection last Thursday night.

The man and woman waited at the pedestrian crossing just before 8pm, waiting for the light to change, minutes before the alleged attack at South and Port Roads in Hindmarsh.

“The woman spoke briefly to the man before he began to cross the road,” South African police said on Tuesday.

The man left after the attack and was last seen traveling north on South Road.

Motorists stopped at the lights may have seen the incident take place and police are now appealing for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.

“The suspect is described as Caucasian in appearance, between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 160cm tall, of a thin build, with shaved dark brown hair and gray stubble,” South African police said.

“He was wearing a blue T-shirt and dark shorts and was carrying two bags, one a large Target shopping bag and the other a Coles cooler bag.”
