Mayor’s Statement: Update on the LTP Process – News and Information

“This will be a fast-moving process as we hope to have key elements of the draft LTP amendment ready by the end of the year. We have several key upcoming dates lined up that include workshops on insurance risk and potential capital cost savings in early November, as well as a key meeting to discuss what savings will come from the LTP adjustment on November 21st,” says Mayor Tory Whenau.

“Saving is a complex process and we also discussed the principles that we should use for this.

“I think every council member agrees that as a top priority, decisions to amend the LTP should not further increase rates and reduce water supply funding. The focus is on cutting projects to build new infrastructure and communities because they are financed by debt.

“I have also said that in leading us through this process, I will seek to avoid cuts to our social housing provision and critical climate action.

“I know cutting back on public projects is difficult. Given that, I think we should aim to share the pain as much as possible between different areas, and between the city center and the suburbs.”

Key LTP Committee meeting dates (note: workshop/briefing dates are subject to change):

  • 29 October Committee Paper on Process and Risks
  • November 12–13 Committee workshop on options for reducing the capital investment program.
  • November 21 The decision to reduce the capital investment program will be submitted for consideration
  • December 11 Approval of the draft budget
  • March 20 – April 20 Public consultations
  • On June 26, the DP was approved.
