1 Person Seriously Injured While Trying to Avoid Oncoming Driver on I-670

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A truck driver suffered life-threatening injuries after his taxi overturned on I-670 in Kansas City while trying to pass an oncoming driver.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that just after 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, emergency crews were called to the area of ​​I-670 West and 7th Street in Kansas City for reports of a rollover collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they discovered James K. Grimes, 50, of Smithville, Missouri, was driving his 2021 International semi-trailer without a trailer west on the interstate when he attempted to pass an unknown driver heading to the wrong direction.

Investigators noted that the semi veered off the interstate to the right and struck a barrier wall, causing the taxi to overturn. Grimes, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment.
