Who took the blame for the Browns’ disastrous coverage of the Chargers’ loss?

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The first words Denzel Ward spoke Sunday said it all.

One of the Browns’ captains, their Pro Bowl quarterback, didn’t want anyone else to come under fire for two critical coverage touchdowns in the Browns’ 2005 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. 27–10.

“You can put it all on me,” Ward said of his postgame availability. “We need to do a better job of communicating. They both failed in reporting and we gave it to them. You can put it all on me. I need to communicate better there.

“Just calling the guys and making sure we’re all in the right position. They were real trinkets and we gave it to them. I hate to do this, but like I said, put it all on me. We just have to get better.”
