New Iowa Poll Shows Democrats Lead in 2 of 4 Congressional Districts

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll shows Iowa voters prefer a Democrat to a Republican in 2 of 4 Iowa congressional districts.

Democrats have an advantage in Iowa’s 1st and 3rd congressional districts, while Republicans have an advantage in Iowa’s 2nd and 4th congressional districts.

Republicans currently hold all four of Iowa’s congressional seats, but a new poll shows a slim majority of likely voters would choose a Democrat over a Republican in the House (45% Democrats vs. 44% Republicans).

This is the first time since September 2020 that Democrats have gained a statewide advantage in the overall congressional vote, and is a change from the previous Iowa poll taken this September, which showed a 52% to 44% advantage in favor of Republicans.

In the 1st District, Democrat Christina Bohannan has a 16-point lead over Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

In response to the poll, the Miller-Meeks campaign released the following statement from press secretary Tyler Menzler:

“This race was always going to be competitive. Mariannette Miller-Meeks won by 6 points in 2020 and by 7 points in 2022. Just like yesterday, Seltzer’s final poll strongly contradicts the reality on the ground. And even the Democrats don’t believe it. On Tuesday, Mariannette Miller-Meeks will win the only poll that matters and be re-elected.”

In the 3rd District, Democrat Lanon Baccam has a 7-point lead over Republican Zach Nunn.

In the 2nd District, Republican Ashley Hinson has a 3-point lead over Democrat Sarah Corkery, and in the 4th District, Republican Randy Feenstra has a 16-point lead over Democrat Ryan Melton.

In the presidential race, Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump 54% to 37% in the 1st District and 48% to 43% in the 3rd District. The two are virtually tied in the 2nd District, with Harris leading 46% to 45%. Trump leads Harris 50% to 41% in the 4th District.
