NFL Fans Couldn’t Believe Eagles-Jaguars Referees Didn’t Overturn Saquon Barkley Fumble

NFL Fans Couldn’t Believe Eagles-Jaguars Referees Didn’t Overturn Saquon Barkley Fumble

The Jacksonville Jaguars appeared to have lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but in a shocking turn of events they quickly found themselves within one point.

The officiating crew’s decision was controversial, with the referees choosing not to overrule Saquon Barkley’s field goal, which the Jaguars defense scooped up and returned for a touchdown.

Barkley appeared to be tripped by a defender, causing him to fall to the ground, where he then lost the football. The Eagles and Barkleys seemed to think the game was over, but Jacksonville’s defense played until the whistle blew when Travon Walker carried a live ball into the end zone for six points.

During the review, although Jaguars linebacker Ventrell Miller grabbed Barkley’s ankle, officials determined that he did not go down from the contact and decided to uphold the fumble ruling.

After falling behind 22-8, a defensive touchdown immediately brought life back to the Jaguars. Meanwhile, the Eagles were left scratching their heads after the judges’ decision.

CBS NFL rules analyst Gene Sterator shared his thoughts on the situation, admitting he was surprised by the referees’ decision.

As with the Philadelphia attack, NFL fans were also puzzled by how Barkley was not ruled down on contact, which expressed their concerns about the officiating.
