The decision followed an attack on a lawyer in Ghaziabad allegedly directed by a district judge.

Lawyer Jagdeep Vats of the committee condemned the police action, calling the accusations against lawyers in the courtroom unacceptable. ANI reported.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) had earlier condemned the alleged police violence against lawyers at the Ghaziabad court premises, calling it a gross violation of rights and the rule of law.

The association criticized the action of the UP police, saying that such behavior allegedly led by District and Session Judge Anil Kumar was unacceptable and undermined the integrity of the judiciary.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has declared that it will not tolerate any attack on the dignity of lawyers. In response to the recent developments, SCBA has urged the Allahabad High Court and the Uttar Pradesh government to take immediate action.

The SCBA specifically calls for an inquiry into the conduct of Anil Kumar under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court, including the Chief Justice and the Administrative Judge in-charge of Ghaziabad.

The SCBA called for the immediate dismissal of Anil Kumar and the police officers involved in the lathi charge incident, as well as compensation for the injured lawyers.

To prevent similar incidents in the future, the SCBA calls for measures to protect lawyers and their families, including the passage of the Lawyer Protection Act.

SCBA also called on the Bar Council of India and all state bar councils to take necessary steps to protect the rights of lawyers by ensuring that they can discharge their duties without fear of intimidation or harassment.

The SCBA said it “stands firmly in solidarity with the defenders of Ghaziabad and pledges to do everything possible to ensure justice is served.”
