Hong Kong Cricket Sixes: Sri Lanka Claims Second Title – Latest News

Sri Lanka won their second Hong Kong Six cricket title and first since 2007 by defeating Pakistan by three wickets in the final on Sunday.

Sandhun Weerakkody, who scored his side’s half-century in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, led Sri Lanka’s charge with a well-under-par target of 73.

The opener hit four sixes in a 13-ball 34 before Dhanashaya Lakshan disappeared for a comparatively sluggish two balls of seven when he was run out following a mix-up with captain Lahiru Madhusanka.

Madhusanka sent Hussain Talath to midwicket for 19 to cause a bit of panic among the Sri Lankans. But their nerves were calmed when Tharindu Ratnayake sent his first ball with a slight edge over the fielder at long-on for six and Sri Lanka needed eight from nine balls.

Ratnayake bowled the next ball for four and after a draw and a dot ball, he finished it off in style with a huge six into the stand, sparking rapturous celebrations among his teammates and the joyful Sri Lankan fans.
