Intelligence agencies: Tinubu does not give preference to southwest in appointments – President

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Publicity and Orientation, Sunday Dare, has said the current administration is not supporting the South-West in the appointment of security chiefs.

In a post via his official X address on Sunday, Dare shared a table listing the heads of 20 security agencies and the regions of the country they come from.

The post of Presidential Assistant comes in the wake of the backlash that followed the appointment of Tinubu Olufemi Oloyede as Acting Chief of Army Staff COAS.

Many Nigerians on social media have accused the President of favoring the South-West, where he is from, in his appointments.

Oloyede will officiate pending the return of the indisposed Taorid Lagbaji, a core member of the COAS.

However, according to a table provided by Dare, the northwest has the largest number of current security chiefs, with eight positions.

According to him, there are five heads of security agencies in the South-West, and in the North-Central there is a third with four appointees.

Three security chiefs are from the Northeast, he said.
