Lewis Hamilton designs first capsule collection with Dior

Regarded as one of the best Formula One drivers of all time, not to mention the best dressed, a collaboration with Dior seemed like a natural step for Lewis Hamilton. Now the seven-time Formula 1 world champion and Dior ambassador has teamed up with Dior Men artistic director Kim Jones to offer a lifestyle capsule collection. Of course, there’s a companion campaign directed by Rafael Pavarotti, with Hamilton front and center showing off his threads, and a recently released behind-the-scenes film showing the making of the collection.

As you’d expect, agility, excitement and innovation come into play as the line celebrates the winter sports of skiing and snowboarding, combined with a high-fashion spirit and Hamilton’s signature sophisticated streetwear aesthetic. It also conveys a joie de vivre with a color palette of vibrant blues, oranges and pinks that are paired with cool, classic, muted tones.

The line draws inspiration from Lewis’s African roots from a historical, contemporary and personal perspective, Lewis says: “Focusing on conscious choices and pushing boundaries with each piece, while combining inspiration with my roots in Africa – drawing inspiration from their fabrics and belief in natural materials.” , as well as the bright colors and powerful energy – were very inspiring. I hope people all over the world will feel good in these clothes that we have so carefully designed.”

Speaking about African influences and manufacturing, Kim Jones says: “We share a love of nature, a desire to celebrate Africa and an interest in the artisanal processes and techniques that unite the artisans of Africa with the know-how of the Dior Atelier. In addition, this collection also reflects Lewis’s sporty side, his virtuosity and our functionality. Overall, everything worked out very organically – and pleasantly!”

Presenting both ready-to-wear and accessories, the look and approach combines classic and modern. Think the sophistication and heritage of Japanese knitwear from weavers in Burkina Faso, as well as suits in traditional Dior tweeds, as well as new African fabrics that are made more casual and rely on Hamilton-style layering. They are paired with slouchy jeans, sweatpants and fleeces made partly from organic or recycled textiles, reflecting Dior’s commitment to sustainability.

When it comes to accessories, they also take an approach that combines style and performance: protective gear specially designed in Sweden, custom snowboards from the Swiss factory 9. Plus messenger bags and backpacks made from super-stretch fabrics, and shoes. created in the Dior atelier – check out the retro-futuristic B44 Blade sneakers and adapted Dior derbies for walking in the snow.
