Two All-State Anglers Run the All-American Fishing Team Fir | Louisiana outdoors

Two Louisiana high school student anglers, Garrett Hooker of Boyce and Carsen Adcock of Houghton, were among the 45-member list named to the school’s state Bassmasters fishing team.

Carter Lanclos of Sulfur and Justin Blais of Forest Hill received honorable mention awards.

These 45 students in grades 10-12 were selected from 300 applicants from 31 states and were judged on success in fishing, community service, conservation work and a minimum GPA of 2.5. From this list, a 12-member high school All-American team will be named.

Tony Viator, who cut his teeth on fishing in southwest Louisiana (he now resides in Texas), teamed up with Gary Moreno to win the Yamaha Bassmaster Redfish Cup championship last weekend in Apalachicola Bay, Florida.

On day three, the team caught two bass weighing 13 pounds, 1 ounce – a total score of 32-9 – ahead of day two leaders Michael Frenette and Mark Robinson, who finished with a score of 31-15.

Frenette is the son of legendary Louisiana angler Mike Frenette.

In the north

Gene Jensen won the Bassmaster Kayak Series finals on Bistineau and Caddo Lakes with a catch of 198½ inches. He won $11,000.

And Rus Snyders of Tennessee earned $5,000 for defending his Angler of the Year title with 730 points in five tournaments.

Elite news

Historical news from Bassmaster last week: 2025 Elite Series anglers will not be charged entry fees. It appears the folks at Bassmaster have made enough money from television rights thanks to what the organization calls “record-breaking viewership for Bassmaster LIVE on the Fox networks and Bassmaster.com, coupled with strong, long-term partnerships” to make the move possible.
