K-State gets upset in close game against Houston after an hour-long weather delay

HOUSTON, Texas. (WIBW) – K-State was upset in a close game against Houston after an hour-long weather delay, 24-19.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first with Chris Tennant’s 23-yard field goal to go up 3-0.

Houston would respond with 10 straight points thanks to a Donovan Smith touchdown and a Jack Martin field goal to take a 10-3 lead.

K-State would respond with a 2-yard touchdown run by DJ Giddens, but the extra point is blocked so the Wildcats still trail 10-9.

However, the Wildcats retook the lead just before the half with Avery Johnson’s 7-yard pass to Keegan Johnson to make it 16-10 at halftime.

K-State would add 3 points to open the second half with Chris Tennant’s 47-yard field goal for a 19-10 lead.

The Cougars didn’t quit, however, as they scored 14 straight goals in the fourth quarter to take a 24-19 lead.

The Wildcats had several chances to win, but Johnson’s late interception and failed Hail Mary ended the game.

K-State falls to 7-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

Johnson was 23/39 for 238 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.

Giddens had 17 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats will not play next week but will host Arizona State on Saturday, Nov. 16.
