Review: New Hermès perfume costs less than $200

When it comes to designer handbags, Hermès Birkin bags are considered the cream of the crop. Owning a Birkin may simply be the ultimate symbol of wealth, and in reality, a small group of people may enjoy the luxury of carrying the coveted bag. It’s easy to assume that everything Hermès does is out of reach. Yes, of course it was – until I discovered their new fragrance Barenia. Given Hermès’ reputation, I’m guessing their perfumes cost a pretty penny, but when I saw the price of this gorgeous scent, my jaw nearly hit the floor: a Birkin bag of scents costs less than $200!

Barenia is the epitome of elegance – from the simple bottle to the exquisite scent inside. I have a huge collection of perfumes (over 200 bottles), but I can confidently say that I have never heard anything like it. This sensual, captivating scent perfectly combines three earthy facets: floral, fruity and woody. I usually find that when fragrances are divided into multiple note categories the end result is a bit clunky and confusing, although this is not the case with Barenia.

This designer fragrance consists of four notes: the top notes have a floral whisper of butterfly lily, reminiscent of ginger with a hint of spice. This unique flower is intertwined with the wonderberry – a powerful red berry – creating a juicy, mouth-watering vibrancy. Finally, as the scent dries down, the combination of warm patchouli and oak gives it a radiant warmth that is earthy, musky and earthy.

For the most part, I’m not a fan of designer perfumes. I find most of them smell too boring and have a poor lifespan. Barenya is a rare diamond (or should I say Birkin bag) among its peers. I can smell this perfume a few hours after spraying it. I also haven’t met a single person in my circle who regularly wears this perfume, which makes it seem more exclusive.

Buyers who fell in love with it discovered a signature of a lifetime. “This is a gorgeous, long-lasting scent that will get compliments wherever you go,” writes one reviewer. “The patchouli shades are so warm and wonderful. It makes me feel both playful and timeless.”
