Celebrate UVI’s homecoming with an evening of music, fellowship and fellowship

As part of the University of the Virgin Islands’ 2024 homecoming celebration, the Reichhold Center for the Arts (RCA) and UVI President Dr. Safiya George invite the community to “Floor Sessions,” a free music concert set for Saturday. November 2.

The concert will be the final event of UVI’s Homecoming Week, which has been filled with events on the university’s St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses aimed at bringing together alumni, students, faculty, staff and the broader Virgin Islands community.

The evening, scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Keene Campus in St. Thomas, will begin with a cocktail hour with a cash bar, tapas and music by DJ Pete. The event, hosted by Dionne Donadel, will feature a number of talented local musicians, including La Voie, Louis Taylor, Brock Lee, Lourdes and Sherwin Williams, promising an evening filled with powerful performances celebrating the artistry of the Virgin Islands.

“UVI Homecoming Week provided an incredible opportunity to reunite and network with alumni, showcase UVI talent, and connect with the community,” said Dr. George. “At UVI, we are proud to be an integral part of the Virgin Islands community and invite one and all to join us for an evening of great music and a celebration of our UVI pride.”

The RCA Sessions are a concert series highlighting exclusively local Virgin Islands talent, taking place at various venues while the Reichhold Center for the Arts is under renovation. Denise Humphrey, director of the RCA, expressed enthusiasm for the concert’s line-up, noting: “We are delighted to bring together such a diverse group of local performers to create a one-of-a-kind concert that will surprise and delight.”

Although the event is free, participants must RSVP due to limited space. To reserve a spot, community members can visit the UVI Events Calendar. Those interested in supporting the ongoing renovation efforts of the Reichhold Center for the Arts can make donations online through the UVI website.
